For this immigration program you need at least one year of work experience (Full time) within a span on last 10 years. It can be in any job field which requires a university level education. There are many high demand career options which you can opt in Canada like Finance, Medical, Education, Technology etc.  These occupations in Canada are categorized by the National Occupational Classification (NOC) codes at Skill Level 0, A or B and these jobs can be qualified for the FSWP. NOC 0 is for management jobs, NOC A is for professional jobs and NOC B is for technical jobs. NOC 00 is for occupations in senior management.

There are couple of reasons why Government of Canada wants abundant of highly-educated skilled worker to migrate to Canada. Firstly, there is a number of old employees who are the part of Canadian work force and now retiring from their jobs and this will continue in the future as well. Secondly, there is less number of Canadian citizens who are not studying enough to fill these high demand jobs. So, this program grant permanent residency to foreign workers who can take these jobs and contribute in the growth of Canadian economy.
